Convent of Nostra Senyora del Pla
Sancta Maria de Sanauga / Augustinians of Sanaüja / Sanahüja
(Sanaüja, Segarra)
At Santa Maria del Pla, there was a church documented as early as the 11th century, the image of Our Lady of El Pla was venerated, a figure that, according to tradition, was miraculously discovered in a bramble bush. In 1655, this church, which had gradually become a hermitage, was ceded to the Augustinian friars for the foundation of a convent, following a visit by the preacher Josep Simon. The transfer was formalized that same year. The current building was rebuilt around 1773. The Augustinian friars resided there until the secularization of 1835. Afterwards, the building served various purposes before passing into private ownership. Today, the convent complex is in a severely deteriorated state.
