The church of Sant Pere dels Arquells already existed by the year 1084. It was founded by Guillem I of Òdena, lord of the castle of the same name and founder of the lineage. He and his wife, Ermengarda, endowed the church with significant assets, possibly with the intention of establishing a monastic function. It was their son, Ramon Guillem of Òdena, who, in 1100, donated the church to the canonical chapter of Santa Maria de l’Estany so that a priory could be founded there. By 1105, a religious community was already established on the site.
The priory developed gradually under the care of the Estany community and through donations it received. However, the decline of Santa Maria de l’Estany also led to the deterioration of Sant Pere dels Arquells. During the 15th century, the community dwindled significantly, and from the mid-century onward, records only mention a provost who did not reside at the site. In 1592, the institution was secularized and came under the authority of Santa Maria de Montserrat as a priory. From then on, it was attended by a prior, and later by a priest. Despite these changes, it retained its priory status until 1835, when it became a parish. The present church is a small 14th-century building that was modified in the 19th century.
