The Hospitaller commandery of Le Feuilloux originated as a Templar house, which subsequently passed to the Order of St John of Jerusalem. Later, it became associated with the Hospitaller commandery of La Croix-au-Bost (Creuse). The medieval chapel survives in relatively good condition, while the other buildings are of later date.

The Templar commandery of Biches passed to the Hospitallers after the suppression of the Order of the Temple in 1312. It had a chapel dedicated to Saint Blaise. The commander of Biches exercised high and low justice within its territory. In 1604, this house was united with that of Saussay (Essonne).

The Cluniac priory of Saint-Agnan was founded through the initiative of Count Thibaud of Chalon (d. 1065), who asked Hugh, abbot of Cluny (1024–1109), to intervene in this matter. The new house was established around 1060, after the foundation of the priory of La Charité (Nièvre). A group of monks arrived from Cluny Abbey (Saône-et-Loire) to occupy an old church dedicated to Saint Front, which until then had been dependent on the bishopric of Auxerre, which maintained a residence at Cosne.

The new priory of Saint-Agnan subsequently became dependent on La Charité. In addition to the church, the priory’s ancillary buildings were constructed during this foundation period. The church was partly rebuilt in 1745, following the collapse of the bell tower in 1625 and of the nave in 1738. It is a Romanesque structure that has been extensively modified. It has three aisles and three apses, without a transept. The decorated Romanesque doorway and a group of capitals in the apse area have survived.

The Cistercian monastery of Notre-Dame des Roches was founded in 1137 through the intervention of Gibaud, lord of Saint-Verain, and Hugh of Montaigu (d. 1136), bishop of Auxerre. The first community came from Pontigny Abbey (Yonne), and its first abbot was Godefroy de Toucy. In 1140, the community of the canonry of Villegondon (Nièvre), founded shortly before, joined it and thus became Cistercian.

In 1529, the abbey adopted the system of commendatory abbots. In 1567, the house was left in ruins as a result of the Wars of Religion, and the community had to flee temporarily. It disappeared during the Revolution, and only a few remains survive today.
